Diabetes Risk Increases in the Middle of the Keto Diet Contra
HEALTHY WORLD-The pros and cons of whether or not the keto diet is healthy is still a matter of debate. Some people claim that this diet is effective in reducing their weight, while others call it a series of dangerous diseases lurking behind it.

As is known, the keto diet applies a low-carbohydrate and high-fat diet. This diet encourages followers to consume as much as 60-70 percent of the total nutritional needs in a day.

The latest study published in the Journal of Physiology states that keto diets can trigger an increased risk of type 2 diabetes. The reason is, this diet inhibits the body in controlling blood sugar, and triggers insulin resistance.

One study author, Christian Wolfrum, said that when the heart is unable to respond to normal levels of insulin to control blood sugar, the risk of diabetes will be increasingly driven to increase. Diabetes, he said, is one of the biggest problems facing the world community today.

"Although the ketogenic diet is known to be healthy, our findings suggest that there may be an increased risk of insulin resistance and cause type 2 diabetes," Wolfrum said, citing News.sky.

At the very least, this study is a reminder that every diet that imposes extreme restrictions causes unexpected health problems, as revealed by genetic epidemiology professor at Kings College, London, England, Spector's Team.

"Many people limit their carbohydrate intake by reducing plant consumption and fiber intake. But that has an adverse effect on health," said Spector.

In Indonesia, the keto diet has also been rejected. Some time ago, the Indonesian Ministry of Health stated that it did not recommend the community to implement this diet. The reason is, the keto diet does not apply balanced nutrition.

"Nutritionally, we have talked with some nutritionists that the keto should not be made a lifestyle. So, at least within a certain period of time, because we do not recommend it," said the Director of Prevention and Control of Non-Communicable Diseases (P2PTM) Ministry of Health represented by the Head of the Metabolic Disorders Section, Sylviana Andinisari in Jakarta, some time ago.

The keto diet was originally applied to epilepsy or ayan sufferers. Reducing carbohydrate intake for people with epilepsy is believed to reduce the electrical conductivity in the brain which often causes seizures.
